Greg Petito is a professional guitar player based in Houston, Tx who has been well established in the Houston music community since 2014. Primarily a jazz and fusion guitar player, his versatilty has been noted by many peers and on any given day, he can be seen performing jazz, fusion, r&b, pop/rock,brazilian, and classical guitar in settings ranging from a big band, to a jazz combo, down to solo guitar performances. He maintains an extremely active performing schedule at venues including Cezanne, House of Blues, The Big Easy, Eddie V's , as well as Jones Hall, Wortham Theater, and Miller Outdoor Theater, among many others. He performs regularly with local artists such as Will Kennedy, John Fedchock, David Caceres, Dennis Dotson, Tianna Hall, Woody Witt, as well as being an inaugural member of the The Houston Jazz Orchestra. In addition to public performances, he frequently participates in recording sessions at Sugar Hill Studios, Wire Road Studios, as well as playing various private funcions such as weddings, corporate parties, and galas.
Greg Petito is also an active educator and clinician. He is a current faculty member at Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, teaching jazz guitar lessons and jazz rhythm section classes. He has conducted guitar clinics and has been a featured artist at HSPVA, Texas Southern University, Lone Star College, as well as being the All State Jazz Guitar clinician for the Texas Music Educator's Conference for the past 3 years.
Prior to moving to Houston in 2014, Greg spent various times being based based in Chicago, Dallas, and New York City. Performing with artists such as Curtis Fuller, Sean Jones, Anat Cohen, Lew Tabackin, Lynn Seaton, and Geof Bradfield, he has performed at venues such as the Green Mill in Chicago , Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, The Chicago Jazz Festival, Denton Arts and Jazz Festival, Mackinac Island Jazz Festival in Michigan, and in October of 2013, Greg Petito was a featured artist in China at the International Music Festival of Chonqing.
Greg has also toured extensively in the United States, European Union, as well as parts of Northern Africa and Central America with commercial artists such as The Platters, Cheyenne Jackson, multi-platinum recording artist Andy Bell, Katherine McPhee, Chita Rivera, Paula Valstein, Risa Binder, as well as Broadway productions of “Wicked”, “Pippin”, and “Chicago: The Musical”.
He holds a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas. At UNT, he was a full scholarship recipient and member of the UNT 2 O'Clock Lab Band and UNT Zebras. At NIU, he was a full time Graduate Teaching Assistant to Professor Fareed Haque, member of the NIU Rosebud Jazztet, as well as the NIU Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Ronald Carter.
